Oral surgery

Oral surgery is a branch of dentistry that includes various surgical interventions in the oral cavity. Oral surgery includes operations such as tooth extraction, removal of lesions around tooth roots and surgical correction of gingival and bone defects. These procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia.

This area of dentistry usually causes discomfort and fear in the patient, and the truth is that with adequate anesthesia and instructions, which patients must follow after the intervention, the discomfort related to the intervention and postoperative recovery can be minimized.

Some of the interventions that fall under oral surgery are the extraction of an impacted wisdom tooth, apicotomy of the tooth root, as well as various interventions on bone and soft tissue, which include the installation of implants.

Tooth extraction

In situations where the tooth cannot be treated conservatively, surgical extraction is suggested. This surgical intervention involves the painless separation of the tooth from the dental cup and removal from it. Before each tooth extraction, the gingiva is anesthetized with a spray or gel. In this way, the patient does not feel pain, and a few minutes after being anesthetized, the tooth is extracted.

Wisdom tooth extractions

Wisdom teeth sprout some time after all the other teeth, so they sometimes run out of space, and teeth that cannot grow are called impacted teeth.

Then they can put pressure on the other teeth and cause them to move, which is the most common cause of wisdom tooth extraction.

Impacted and semi-impacted wisdom teeth are a common problem today, we advise and perform their surgical extraction as a preventive measure to avoid major problems in the future, and if they are already present, we advise the removal of such wisdom teeth as soon as possible.

Resection of the root tip (apicotomy)

This intervention is applied to teeth that cannot be repaired with conservative treatment. The pathological process most often occurs after inadequate endodontic therapy or non-treatment of the tooth if it is vital.

Apicotomy is a surgical procedure that removes the tip of the tooth root along with the infection on it. The procedure itself implies the mandatory treatment of the tooth root canal, from where the infection was transferred to the tip of the root.

Sinus lift

A sinus lift is an intervention where we raise the bottom of the sinus cavity and place a bone substitute, in order to provide space for implant installation. This procedure significantly increases the success rate of implant placement in that area. Trauma for the patient in such procedures is minimal.

Frenulum resection

In children as well as adults, the frill (frenulum) can cause a diastema (space) between the upper central incisors due to high attachment. For the same reasons, the thickened frenulum in the lower jaw makes it difficult to raise the tongue, and in some situations, speech. Frenulum resection is a routine procedure that is performed painlessly, under local anesthesia, without any scar after healing.

Leveling of the bone ridge

Ridge leveling is part of the pre-prosthetic surgical procedure, where bony bumps on the jaw are removed that could be painful after the prosthesis is installed. A minimally invasive surgical method is used to straighten the bone irregularity using special instruments.

With this intervention, the prosthesis rests on the gingiva, does not irritate it, nor does it cause painful sensations.
